CARTEN 100 Charities - Over £97,600 raised to date
JDRF - Chosen Charity 2012
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Type 1 diabetes affects 350,000 people in the UK - over 25,000 of them are children. Incidence of type 1 is increasing
by four per cent each year, particularly in children under five. It is not know why this trend is occuring. JDRF
exists to find the cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications, and is the world's leading charitable funder of
type 1 diabetes research.
Where the funds have gone in previous years?
Often we were asked if the ride is for charity, so in 2006 we formed our own fund
raising committee, CARTEN 100 (CARdiff to TENby 100 miles). That year with some generous sponsorship
and the sale of cycling shirts we raised £6,068 for Ty Hafan, the Children's Hospice
in Wales. In 2007 we raised £5,201 for The Joshua Foundation
and in 2008, £6,007 for Ty Hafan. CARTEN 100
2010 saw another great year with a staggering £21,021.83 raised, again for
Ty Hafan, following on from the £10,245.50 in 2009.
In 2011 our riders raised £46,218.35 for Velindre Fundraising and £2,792.52 went to the Special Care Baby Unit in Withybush Hospital.
This brings the total amount raised to date to over £97,600.
We are looking forward to another great year in 2012.
